The main people that were targeted in this genocide were the Tutsis, an ethnic group of Africa. They were targeted by the Hutus because the Hutus wanted to overthrow the Tutsi government, which had been in rule for a long time. The Hutus were tired of the Tutsis being the superior group in Rwanda so they wanted to eliminate all of the Tutsis and have a Hutu run government. The Hutus mainly wanted to just kill the males and to rape and mutilate the women. In just a short time period the Hutus managed to inflict so much damage on the Tutsis. (Johnson, 2015)
