The Hutu's used multiple tactics during the Rwandan genocide. It started off as most genocides do with a lot of propaganda against the Tutsi's. The Hutu's blamed the Tutsi's for Rwandas increasing social and economical problems. Political speeches were full of threats towards the Tutsi's and radio announcers encouraged the Hutu's to destroy the Tutsi's. Hutu's referred to the Tutsi's as cockroaches and it was made very clear that no Tutsi's were to be trusted.("Start a Genocide", 2011) Then on April 7th, 1994 the order was sent out to begin the killings. Roadblocks were set up so no one could escape and soldiers were sent out down the streets to murder any Tutsi's they came across. It started off as just killing politicians, business men, and political leaders and then spread to killing everyone that was Tutsi or associated with the Tutsi.("Start a Genocide". 2011)
Many methods were then used to carry out this mass murder. Most people were killed with machetes, knifes, or clubs. They were beaten to death or brutality mangled and cut up. Tutsi's were often killed in their own home while there entire family watched as they were mutilated. Even worse the Hutu's brutally raped most of the Tutsi women and even Hutu women that were associated with or married to a Tutsi. Just like the killings the rapes often took place in the victims home with their family being forced to watch. ("Genocide", 2015) The Hutu's were very effective in their killing because they would often kill an entire neighborhood at a time, it was easiest for them to kill in large groups rather than individually and this way they inflicted more damage.
